Refugee Status: Seeking Protection in the UK
Refugee Status is granted to individuals who have fled their home country due to a well-founded fear of persecution. If you are granted refugee status in the UK, you are given the right to live, work, and access essential services for a limited period, usually 5 years. After this, you can apply for permanent residence.

You may qualify for Refugee Status if:
- You are outside your home country and believe that the government of your home country cannot or will not protect you from persecution.
- You are unable to return to your home country due to a well-founded fear of persecution based on:
- Race
- Religion
- Nationality
- Political opinion
- Membership in a particular social group (e.g., LGBTQ+, ethnic minorities)
